Day 1 - Jerusalem!
CCJDS Israel Blog - Day One
By Abe K. & Isaiah (leaders of the day)
Hello All!
Today was our first day in Israel! Despite the fact that we were all running on very little sleep, we managed to get through a jam-packed and fun day. Our first stop today was Yad Lakashish. Yad LaKashish is a service that provides meaningful work and artistic activities for elderly refugees. While there, the first-grade SHIR HaLev ambassadors along with the tzedakah coordinators presented the director with a tzedakah donation that we have been collecting at Shabbat over the last month. After visiting Yad LaKashish, we piled back into our bus and drove to the Machane Yehuda shuk where we had a delicious lunch. During this lunch, each student was given 50 Sheckels (around $13) dollars to spend at various different food and drink stalls located around the market. Following this delicious lunch, we walked a few blocks to a nearby dance studio. This dance studio, known as the Kolben Dance Academy, performed three dance routines for us, all while teaching us important things about both dance and life in Israel. After watching the dancers perform, we were given an opportunity to create our own unique dance moves based on different scenarios given to us by a choreographer. Finally, we visited the Ein Rafa Mosque and learned about Islam. This visit was enhanced by our host who was very open and was able to answer many questions about the culture and religion. Many people noted that this was one of their favorite parts of the day. After a long day of fun activities, we all returned to our hotel and ate a delicious dinner.
Thanks!
